As mentioned the Classic C1 is not a sealed system. Something important with allergies such as yours. Go with the C3 Calima it comes with the HEPA filter and is sealed. Or check out the Miele Compact C1 Homecare and add a HEPA, the compact C1 is sealed.

Mieles are great vacuums. The only appreciable difference between the Classic C1 and the Compact C1 is the size, the Compact C1 has a slightly smaller canister. You can't add the electric power head to either but you can add a turbo head for light carpeting.
Miele C1 compact Turbo Team vs. C1 Classic Turbo Team. I have a flat about 1000 sq. ft with about 30% low and tight carpet runners and a couple of Turkish rugs. Hardwood otherwise. I do have two female roommates that shed a lot of hair. Costco has the classic for $299 plus tax and BBB has the compact version for $320 plus tax (coupon included)
